LET THE CONTEST BEGIN YA SHANKS!
(Open to anyone, anywhere who has a mailing address)
So I was planning to hold the contest until a few days after I read the book, and Mara says to me, "you are going to have plenty of time to read it while the contest is open for entry so duh, put up the contest now!" And, here it is. I'll tell you, I do not know what I would do in life without her. I am thankful for my lovely wife every single day. Ok, so enough of the mushy stuff and let's get to the gooood stuff.
Before we go over the rules for entry, I want to give you guys the synopsis/preview which is on the back of the ARC and I a pretty sure I have not seen this anywhere. COnsider it a little contest warming present from me to you:
THE MAZE WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING....
Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. No more variables. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escape meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one really knew what sort of life they were going back to.
In the Maze, life was easy. They had food, and shelter, and safety... until Teresa triggered the end. In the world outside the Maze, however, the end was triggered long ago.
Burned by sun flares and baked by a new, brutal climate, the Earth is a wasteland. Government has disintegrated- and with it, order-and now Cranks, people covered in festering wounds and driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim... and meal.
The Gladers are far from done running. Instead of freedom, they find themselves faced with another trial. They must cross the Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and arrive at a safe haven in two weeks. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.
Thomas can only wonder- does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?
THE END
WOWZERS!!! So, I am on page 80 of 360 and Dashner has followed through and absolutely NOT failed me. Seriously man, where did you come from?!?! Dashner, YOU DA MAN!
Ok, so you want to win yourself my treasured ARC of The Scorch Trials, do ya?? My objective is to make this both fun and easy. There will be a main entry requirement and then a few different ways you faithful Duders can earn some extra entries and increase you chances of winning. (10 total possible entries per person) I will use www.random.org at the contests conclusion to pick the winner. All I ask is that you guys follow my rules as many of my followers know I take very seriously and will hold you to them. It's not that I am being difficult, it's just that a contest is difficult to run in it's entirety and I am more than happy to do it so I just ask for a little cooperation. Now, with that out of the way, here are the rules and ways to enter:
FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF ALL...
You must, 100% be an official follower of our site. This is extremely important and you will be disqualified if you are not a follower if you are picked. I will check and see if the winner is a follower before announcing it. If you don't know how to do this, on the right side bar of my site there is a "follow" button that says "with google friend connect" right underneath it. Just follow the instructions and you will be good to go.
+2
For simply leaving a comment and your email address in the comments section. Remember you MUST be a follower. If you do not want to leave your email address, make sure you email me directly with the name you entered under AND your email address
+3
If you write in your comment what you think is going down in "The Scorch Trials." It is just fun for everyone to see where you think Dashner's mind is, or perhaps where you would like it to be!
+5
If you blog on your site/tweet/facebook, etc. about this contest AND put the link back to it in your entry.
**BONUS ENTRIES WORTH +1 EACH**
If you read through and comment on my last 2 book reviews, "Z" and "I Am Number Four" you can add +1 for each of those. ALSO, any reviews that go up between now and the contest end is worth +1 also for each one you read and comment on!
To celebrate the release of the paperback version of "The Maze Runner," the contest will end at exactly 11:59 p.m. EST on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010.
I think the rules are pretty simple. I am really excited to give this away to one of you guys or gals. As always, if you have any questions regarding the contest you can feel free to email me at tlgbrs@gmail.com and just because the "law" says I have to write this, this ARC was provided to me by Random House to review here on my blog site. (which I was VERY appreciative of!)
Thanks all and Good Luck!!
DAVE

+3 I think there's gonna be a lot more based on the WIKED and the Cranks (duh), but better yet, more on who they really are and how they came to be and what their separate plans for the Gladers are. I'm excited for the brutality that this world is going to rein on them all and to see how they make their way through it like they did with the Maze. :)

This book cannot come out fast enough! I really hope I win!
ReplyDelete+2 Remysmomme@yahoo.com
+3 There is definitely a conspiracy because of the letter at the end of Maze and I cant wait to see what that's about. I also think they will use Teresa to get Thomas across the Scorch, but I also think that maybe Teresa is still a bad guy. I think there will be more monsters for them to fight against and I think maybe they will try to use the elements, like a tornado or earthquake, if they are that powerful, to really test them. I also think that Thomas is going to figure out the conspiracy and play them at their own game.

What's going on: Not terribly sure. But some sort of trail/weed our process in an effort to find the kid(s) who wil be able to lead/solve problems/fix the world/save the world/something like that. I'm thinking something like the Enders Game, but probably without aliens.
Thanks for the chance to win!

+3 I think it'll be a bit different b/c the Gladers will realize it's another trial. They'll already know the "why" as oppose to in The Maze Runner where they spent most of the time wondering why they're there. Tommy will be the leader. HE BETTER BE THE LEADER! I hope there's more romance between Tommy and Teresa. AND MORE NEWT! And someone I love from this book will die. James Dashner can be so cruel sometimes... :P

I'm very excited to learn what happens to Thomas, Teresa and everyone after the first story ends! It's been a long time since I finished MAZE, but I'm sure in the next book we will learn more about the purposes of W.I.C.K.E.D. and why the boys were put in the maze in the first place.
What if that horrible, wasteland Earth doesn't really exist? Maybe it's just another part of someone's cruel test? From the sound of that synopsis on the back, James has made this book even more uber-epic than the one before it! No matter what happens, I'm sure I will love the ride! ^_^
~~~ 3 points
I'll put this on Facebook! Promise! Maybe I'll blog about it too... does that mean I'd get double the points?
~~~ 5/10(?) points
As you can see, I really want to win a SCORCH ARC! I was sad that I couldn't win one directly from James, though he did pick good people who deserved it, I guess. ~,~ It's very generous of you to be giving your own prized ARC away. I hope it goes to the right person. ^_~

+3 I'm not exactly sure what is going to happen in The Scorch Trials. I thought I knew what was happening in The Maze Runner, but the last 150 pages or so just completely threw me for a loop. I do think we'll get to learn a little more about WICKED and how messed up the world is now with the flares and everything. I have a feeling that Thomas is going to take on the role as leader again and have to help all the Gladers get out of the 'supposedly' safe place that we left them in in the first book.

An ARC of Scorch Trials--how exciting!! Okay, here's my entry. :)
ReplyDelete+2: Marie Lu, email at marie.x.lu -at- gmail.com
+3: Maybe WICKED is making them cross the Scorch so that they can deliver some sort of special "device" or weapon (i.e. a person, maybe a special *girl*) to the supposedly safe haven at the end of the journey? And if so, then Thomas will be the one who discovers this early on and then games the Trials and throws WICKED for a loop. I'm sure we'll also find out more about WICKED, and maybe there's even a twist where one of the boys is a spy for WICKED and belongs to the org.

+3 I'm hoping that Dashner familiarizes us more with Teresa and strengthen the bond between her and the other characters, namely Thomas. If he pulls off any sort of romance seamlessly I will be thoroughly impressed. I'm hoping that the Scorch Trials is distinctly different from the Maze Runner, thematically. I hope that it changes direction instead of being more of the same. As far as hypothesizing goes, I think that perhaps the scorch trials will move past the motive of simply culling the weaker individuals and actually have more of a motive behind it. I think that the level of evilness of WICKED will be highly ambiguous throughout. Anyways, my expectations are rather high, OF COURSE!!! :)

+3 Hmmm. There is so many directions that the book could go in! I remember the letter at the end of The Maze Runner saying something about a Group B, and my best guess for that is that Group B is all girls, and really, that is all I have. But it is fun to read what everyone else thinks. I actually never thought of Theresa being evil, but now that a few people have mentioned it...
Thanks for the opportunity! I look forward to reading your review!
Thanks for the contest! I'm thinking the link between Thomas and Teresa will become more complicated. I suspect she's holding something back. Maybe not. ReplyDelete3 - I'm so excited about this book, it just can't come quick enough. Obviously, it's a trilogy, so we have another one after the Scorch Trials. I have no idea which direction he will go, but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with Tom and Teresa's "gift" and Group B - which could be a group left in the "Flare" or the group of kids still in the maze... not sure. Just know I can't wait to read it :)

I think Thomas will become a leader and all those people that got affected by the flares are gunna be creepy and zombie like. i also think wicked are total jerks and in control so ill be surprised if the saying "wicked is good" turns out to be true. more gladers will probably die. just a guess. im hoping ill find out what happened to the gladers that got left in the maze. i dont know!! i need to find out!! +3
i also commented on "z" and "i am number four" +2

ok, i was evaluating how bad I really want this ARC and apparently I must Really want it bad since its now way past my bedtime and I just finished posting this on my blog and now I am a follower and am getting ready to comment on more reviews. look what you have turned me into ; )
ReplyDeletei love how the last book ended with just more questions and just when you think it can't get any worse in the maze, they finally get out to even more craziness and I am sure it will only get crazier with #3. I too would love to see a love story with T & T but only if theresa doesn't die! there are a lot of 'afterlife' kind of ideas running here for me. journeys to safe havens, apocalypse (of course) and people proving their worthiness to participate in trials run by people in lab coats (ok, maybe that one is a stretch.) cant wait to read it!

ReplyDeleteOkay, this book is going to be amazing! I cannot wait! The Maze Runner was by far my favorite book ever, and I just can't wait to get The Scorch Trials. It's going to be ASTONISHING.
+3 From where the first book left off (a total cliffhanger!), these are my predictions for what I think is going to happen in Scorch. I think Thomas and Theresa (or whatever their real names are) and the rest of the survivors from the Maze are going to figure out their past, destroy WICKED, and save the world. But of course, there is much more to that. You see, they have to cross the Scorch and find a cure for the Flare. But before they can find a cure, they need to get the best people. Which means, elimination. So, who will live? What will be the next Trial they have to face? Who will be chosen? Who will die? Well, maybe the last Trial is just finding a cure. Maybe only one will be chosen, or maybe more. Thomas will most likely make it, but will Theresa? Is Theresa going to die? Oh, I just can't wait! James did a great job with the first one, and he left so many questions at the end!
+5 I also posted about this contest on my blog! http://braymartino.blogspot.com/2010/08/maze-runner-book-2-contest.html
+1 +1 And, I commented on your last to posts (Z, and I am number 4). So I think it adds up to 12 enteries, but of course, since there are only 10 per person, I would get 10 entries (if I added correct) Haha! :-)
Well, Dave, thanks for the contest!
Really looking forward to this book.

There will be more manipulation of the Gladers. I think Theresa will play a big role and both she and Thomas will make it to the final book.

I think that this is another thing put on by WICKED. Like, once they finish it, they'll find a way out and find themselves in another place. With ANOTHER trial. (Like how they got out of the maze and still had more stuff to do for WICKED...)

I also commented on "Z". Sounds interesting. Thanks for keeping me in the loop.

I think that we are going to see some detrayal and maybe spies amoung the group the cross The Scorch. Also that there is going to be another big puzzle that has to be solved to find the way to this "haven".

ReplyDelete+3 Can't wait to see what Dashner comes up with next, but I think the group is going to have to tough it out in what's left of the world. And there'll probably be tons more problems, like diseases and the remnants of apocalyptic natural disasters.

Okay, now I've got some more time and I'm going to finish my entries...
ReplyDeleteWhat do I think is going to happen in The Torch Trials? Well, at some point I think the kids are going to start remembering things that have been blocked from their memories. In particular, their parents. And either the parents are somehow involved in their new existence in their micro society, or the parents are completely victimized by this as well by the loss of their children. Maybe they don't even know where their children are. Who knows...
