Book Review: Fifty Shades Of Grey by E.L. James

When literature student Anastasia Steele is drafted to interview the successful young entrepreneur Christian Grey for her campus magazine, she finds him attractive, enigmatic and intimidating. Convinced their meeting went badly, she tries to put Grey out of her mind - until he happens to turn up at the out-of-town hardware store where she works part-time. Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

My Review:

Woah! I don't think I have been so enthralled in a book since Twilight! Fifty Shades of Grey had me at Chapter 1! I couldn't put my ipad down for more than an hour..... unless I was sleeping. Meet Anastasia Steele, a senior in college with her entire life ahead of her. She is beautiful, very naive, and inexperienced in the relationship department. Living in Portland with her roommate Kate, Ana encounters Christian Grey-- and her life will never be the same.

Christian is a twenty seven year old businessman and self made billionaire. Very handsome and physically fit, he is very charismatic. Ana happens to meet Christian by accident. She helps her roomate Kate out and interviews him for the WSU magazine. Christian instantly falls for Ana, and actively pursues her. Ana is very receptive to his invitation, as the attraction is mutual.

As their relationship develops, Ana learns about Christian's tortured past. As handsome as he is on the outside is as damaged as he is on the inside. There is sexual tension between the two from their first coffee date. He warns Ana quietly to stay away from him. But why? She learned from the interview he was adopted at a young age to two wealthy parents. His mom was addicted to drugs and passed away. Christian is very guarded, but this doesn't deter Ana. As a matter of fact, she is incredibly attracted to him. Ana is a strong independent woman who is pursuing a career in publishing.

While out with friends one night, Ana had drunk dialed Christian to thank him for a some books he sent her as a gift for doing the interview. Christian realizes Ana's state of mind and increasingly becomes concerned. Ana ends the conversation and steps outside the bar with a friend of hers. Ana instantly finds herself in a scary situation, and panics. All of the sudden Christian rescues her --and she is completely baffled how he found her. He takes her back to his hotel, and their twisted relationship has begun.

Christian treats Ana extremely well, and has proven he is able to take care of her. He is quirky and very concerned about things like making sure Ana has eaten, knowing her whereabouts, and focusing on her overall health. He wants only the best for her, providing her with many gifts because "he can". In return, She.is.his. This captivates Ana completely. But nothing comes for free........

You see, Ana is one of many women that have come into Christians life. However, Ana is different. Christians relationships in the past, have involved contracts and total control by Christian. Similar to his business deals, but Ana is peculiar and an intense challenge. She isn't so willing to agree to Christian's demands. Which only makes Christian want Ana more. But what Ana discovers is both alarming and troubling, making her want to be in Christians life more than ever. Will she sign his contract??

I have never read a book more sexually charged than this. The chemistry between Christian and Ana was unbelievable. I knew going into it that it would be a little steamy, but no one could prepare me for what I read. BDSM- uh what's that? Not to sound like a two year old, but I really wasn't educated on that type of behavior- and I don't think Ana was either. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware it exists, but I found myself gasping during many chapters. As awful as it was, I couldn't stop reading the book. Why did Christian need all the control?? Why was Ana NOT allowed to touch Christian. What did Christian eventually want from Ana. Why did she keep coming back? If he loved her so much, why did he hurt her so much?

Those are the questions that kept going through my mind as I continued reading the story. Will Ana continue the relationship and sign the contract, or will she walk away forever? Fifty Shades Darker is next.

Until then-- Laters baby.
